ABOUT THE PENNYWISE SHOP

The Pennywise Thrift Shop was created as a fund raising endeavor by the parishioners of The Church of The Holy Comforter in Vienna, Virginia.

The shop has been selling affordable, lightly used clothing and small household items to the greater Vienna community since 1961. Proceeds from the sale of shop merchandise are used by the Episcopal Church Women to fund a variety of activities within the parish as well as in the community at large.

Some of the outside contributions include:

  • Habitat for Humanity, which provides affordable housing for low-income families,
  • Capital Hospice (formerly Hospice of Northern Virginia) an organization that provides medical, emotional, and spiritual care to terminally ill patients and their families,
  • Paperback books to prisoners in county jail,
  • Cosmetics to the women at Mt. Carmel House Dinner Program in Washington, D.C.,
  • Eyeglasses to the Lion's Club for distribution in the third world countries,
  • Cell phones to the local police department to be recycled for use in a program for battered women,
  • Food to the Vienna based Committee for Helping Others,
  • Clothing to FACETS, which provides services to temporarily homeless, and
  • Maternity and infant clothing to the OB/GYN clinic at INOVA Fairfax Hospital.
